Douglas Armstrong

Douglas currently brings over 25 years’ public sector experience on policy, strategy and operations within the Scottish Government. He has held a number of senior leadership roles across a range of portfolios including Health, Education and Justice and successfully led through transformational periods, including in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, EU Exit, Vaccination Programme and Energy/Cost Crisis. Douglas served as a member of the Scottish Government Executive Team - People and Place board from 2019-2023 – which supported the future strategic direction and policies of the organisation. His current role within Lifelong Learning and Skills directorate includes responsibility for delivering on the government’s commitment for a single National Skills Plan.
Outside of work, Douglas lives with his wife in Edinburgh and enjoys keeping active, sport, music and travel.
